California has officially approved Proposition 64, which makes recreational marijuana legal in the state. Throughout the pre-voting process, a number of musicians showed their support of the bill, including Sting, Melissa Etheridge, Jay Z, Harry Belafonte, Common, Pusha T and Bill Kreutzmann. Now that the measure has passed, a number of musicians have sent out their reactions on social media.
To no one’s surprise, Snoop Dogg was one of the first to show his excitement, posting on Twitter, “We just legalized marijuana in Cali. #smokeweedeveryday“. In equally unsurprising news, Tommy Chong posted a celebratory picture of him with a massive collection of cannabis jars. And earlier in the day, Seth Rogen acknowledged his support of the proposition, “I’m (obviously) voting YES on Prop 64 in CA because I support legal, recreational marijuana!!!!!!!”
Prop 64 passed in California on a margin of 56 percent to 44 percent. Prop 64 and Amendment 2 were two of the nine initiatives on ballots across the country, and recreational legalization also passed in Massachusetts. Meanwhile, similar races in Maine, Arizona and Nevada are currently too close to call. On the medical marijuana side, Arkansas and North Dakota passed measures, and the vote in Montana is still too close to be called.
